Ivy Tech Community College, Terre Haute Campus, is recruiting for a Maintenance Technician. The purpose of this position is to help maintain facilities, grounds and properties in a condition of optimal operating excellence, by performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on buildings in areas of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment. This position also is responsible for the maintenance of landscapes by weed-eating, mowing, and snow removal when applicable and the detailing of the college's owned vehicles. Selected candidates will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check, and must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, and be insurable under the college authorized driver criteria. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon that outcome.
Major Responsibilities: Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, physical plant and systems;
Perform routine and periodic maintenance and preventative maintenance and repairs to grounds equipment and all college vehicles;
Troubleshoots and repair of electrical, plumbing, pneumatic and environmental systems;
Performs daily building and systems checks and complete required documentation;
Assist in structural repairs and renovation to buildings both interior and exterior;
Performs outside grounds maintenance including snow removal, landscaping and lot clean up.
Assist in maintaining computer control systems (HVAC, Security, etc.);
Assist others to install conduit, wiring circuits, receptacles, switches, and controls.
Perform preventive maintenance such as changing filters, lubing, greasing, changing belts and bearings to maintain existing air-handling units, and exhaust systems.
Respond to emergency requests.
All other duties logically associated with this position.
Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics and be familiar with building, plumbing and electrical codes.
Must be able to work varied schedules including Saturdays and evenings, as well as overtime.
Must have knowledge of industrial electricity including polarity, 110 voltage, and 208/220 voltage.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and communicate effectively.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, sprays and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee will occasionally work irregular or extended hours and will frequently work alone. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally very loud.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Salary - $17.00/hour; overtime paid after 40 hours worked in a week.
