Position Summary
The School of Public Service at National University invites applications for part-time faculty in our undergraduate and master’s programs in Homeland Security, Emergency Management and Criminal Justice. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of/or potential for excellence in teaching in both fields and a commitment to serving the university’s diverse adult student body. The successful candidate will have the potential for a commitment to serving the university’s diverse adult student body. This position primarily works closely with the Academic Program Director and other faculty within the program and contributes to ensuring program quality, student engagement, and success.
Note: This part-time Faculty position will be expected to teach 4- and 8-week courses, on-site, at military base campus centers in the San Diego, CA metropolitan area. Candidates might also be asked to teach online, asynchronous courses
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide expertise in assigned content area by maintaining current knowledge in the field.
- Provide substantive, timely feedback to students on various assessment activities.
- Maintain a positive, safe, inclusive student-centric learning environment.
- Complete required tasks on deadlines (e.g., final grades, assessment, grading rubrics, input for grade appeals, etc.)
- Maintain appropriate professional training and/or scholarly activities, when applicable.
- Provide feedback to the course lead regarding the course content.
- Identify at-risk students and collaborate with student services.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or closely related field required.
- Terminal degree in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or closely related field preferred
- At least 3 years of professional experience in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, or a closely related field required.
- Able to be credentialed to access military installations where University degree programs are offered for on-site instruction required.
- 1 year of experience in teaching Homeland Security, Emergency Management or Criminal Justice preferred.
- Experience in teaching adult learners preferred.
- Experience in developing course content preferred.
- Experience working in Law Enforcement preferred.
- Must reside and be eligible to work in the United States.

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies.
