The expected pay range for this position is $115,000/year to $135,000/year.
Applications are invited for a full time Research Associate position with the PharmacoEpidemiology Group (PEG) of the Therapeutics Initiative in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, University of British Columbia. This position involves conducting pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomic studies, and related analyses of the evidence on the benefits, harms, and costs of pharmaceutical, therapeutic, and health system interventions and participating in the translation of knowledge. The primary activities of the Research Associate include:
- Design and execution of complex pharmacoepidemiology studies involving large administrative health claims databases.
- Responsible for writing computer programs (SAS, SQL, R) for administrative data analysis, conducting statistical analysis for pharmacoepidemiology studies.
- Design and conduct analyses of comparative effectiveness, indirect treatment comparisons, cost-effectiveness, burden of illness, and total costs of care for pharmacoeconomic studies.
- Writing and submitting grant applications, writing research abstracts and manuscripts, preparing reports and presenting research findings to Ministry of Health senior executives, and at academic conferences.
- Supervising and providing guidance to research analysts.
- Responsibility for the completion of contracted deliverables between the PEG of the Therapeutics Initiative and the BC Ministry of Health as well as other research grants.
- Assessing the analysis resource needs of other working groups in the Therapeutics Initiative and providing analysis resource support as required.
- Overseeing research protocols and study design.

The Research Associate will work from the Therapeutics Initiative offices in downtown Victoria, BC or UBC Point Grey Campus in Vancouver, BC.
Qualifications: The candidate must hold a PhD degree in a health sciences discipline, 10+ years of experience leading and conducting pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomic studies. Candidates should have advanced knowledge of statistical and modeling methods and should have had a central role on complex drug safety, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness studies. Training in a health profession and clinical experience are assets. The candidate should have the ability to take a leadership role within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and professionals in a synergistic and productive manner, with skills in supervising and training junior research analysts.
Duration and Salary: The start date will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will be for an initial appointment of 1 year with possibility of renewal. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and within the range of $115,000/year to $135,000/year.
