This is a casual hourly position, with variable hours during the weekday (0800 – 1700 h) and some weekends (0800 – 1530 h).

Job Summary
The Research Assistant (RA) will assist the MRI technologist to ensure a safe and respectful environment for people about to undergo an MRI scan conducted at the BC Children's Hospital MRI Research Facility.
Organizational Status
The RA will work closely with and report directly to the Head MRI Technologist (or designate).
Work Performed
Work performed will include (but is not exclusive to):
Explains the MRI process to participants. Prepares participants for scanning (eg. Offering scrubs to change into, ensuring removal of jewelry) . Conducts the initial MRI safety screening process utilizing the MRI Patient Screening Form. Reports initial screening results and any safety concerns to Head MRI Technologist (or designate) so that the MR Technologist may conduct the second level of MRI safety screening.
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones and entering data, as directed by the Supervisor.
Assists with room turn-over by performing duties related to laundry and maintaining general cleanliness.
Performing other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Assistant is required to conduct activities in a safe, respectful and ethical manner. Any deviation from standard operating procedures could affect the safety of others. Data entry must be reliably and accurately recorded in a timely manner. Personal confidentiality standards must be adhered to.
Supervision Received
The Head MRI Technologist will supervise this position.
Supervision Given
This position will operate under the direct supervision of the Head MRI Technologist (or designate).
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Physically able to enter the MRI scanner room if the MRI Technologist requires assistance (eg. Does not have a pacemaker or other medical conditions that would prevent entry into an MRI environment).
Completion of CPR/AED certification (provided), plus online training to support position requirements.
Ability to effectively use Outlook and workplace application platforms.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to relate with others effectively, discretely, and respectfully
Ability to organize workflow.
