Position Summary:
In close collaboration and under the supervision of the Dean, the Director, Administration and Finance, is responsible for the overall administration of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences' core operational areas including security, budget, finance, capital project, IT, human resources, and academic affairs. The Director, Administration and Finance, will follow and ensure the success of the faculty’s strategic plans and, in collaboration with the administrative, academic and research units, will ensure that the faculty mission in the areas of education, research and community services reach a level of excellence.
During this mandate, the Director, Administration and Finance, will advise the academic leadership team on McGill related policies and will ensure that processes are in place and followed, as recommended by IT Assessment & Review (ITAR). The Director, Administration and Finance, should ensure that self-finance programs are generating revenue to cover their related costs, and that faculty will respond to the audit requirements. As one of the faculty’s main priorities, the Director, Administration and Finance, should embrace and encourage the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and promote this throughout the different levels of their work. The Director, Administration and Finance, will have a good understanding of the university and affiliated hospitals, particularly in regard to their policies, unions, and the administration of dental clinics.
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee the space and building resources of the faculty, including the main faculty building (2001 McGill College), and other clinics and buildings within Montreal (various external clinics, MGH, JGH, MCH, James Lund Clinic).
Oversee financial planning and budgeting functions for the faculty, including developing the operating budget, establishing financial controls, and monitoring financial performance, as well as all meeting internal and external auditing requirements.
Support and guide the Dean and leadership team in developing administrative and financial policies and practices, as well as in accreditation, cyclic reviews, and curriculum evaluations.
Engage in broader faculty life, including participation in strategic committees and events, and actively promote a positive, healthy, and engaging working environment.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
10 years of work experience at a senior management level in a large academic, public or private institution a strong asset, ideally with demonstrated experience in change management projects and in the supervision of staff in a university setting. Strong managerial, leadership, active listening and communication skills, and business acumen. Solid knowledge and experience in budgeting and financial analysis. Ability to analyze complex issues and problem-solve. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, support and motivate staff with advanced knowledge in their respective fields and to actively work with them to foster career development. Proven experience acting as a change agent and champion within an organizational, multicultural setting. Priority-setting abilities, and proven ability to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines. Proven experience working in a computerized environment using word-processing, databases, spreadsheets and presentation software. Fluent in English and French.
