Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Legal Operations Associate (Student Role) supports the day-to-day administrative, organizational, and operational needs of the Office of University Counsel. This position offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in an office setting while developing skills in professional communication, project management, document handling, and office workflow systems.
Candidates must be self-motivated and adhere to strict confidentiality requirements.
Interest in pursuing a career in law, public policy and administration, governance, or business operations is a plus!
Responsibilities include:
• Perform clerical and administrative tasks including filing, emailing, data entry, scanning, and document management with accuracy.
• Greet and assist office visitors and callers in a professional, courteous manner; route inquiries appropriately and maintain front desk coverage.
• Assist with special projects involving legal research, document preparation, and policy benchmarking as directed by university counsel staff.
• Maintain case databases and support records retention and organization efforts
• Ensure confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive legal information
• Provide general administrative and clerical support to attorneys and operations staff
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled as an EKU student
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Experience in a professional office and/or legal setting
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Outlook and Word); experience with document management systems is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to professionalism
