The Santa Fe College Police Department (SFPD) is an award-winning, fully sworn police agency which is nationally recognized for excellence and community policing efforts. Beyond just enforcing state laws and college rules, every police department member is dedicated to working in partnership with the college community toward the goal of a safe Santa Fe.
The SFPD Police Dispatcher will work as part of a cohesive team and facilitate essential communications in person, via phone, and over the radio with both on- and off-campus law enforcement as well as the public. In addition to radio dispatching, the Police Dispatcher is responsible for department record keeping and providing assistance to a high-profile front desk that requires shift work with periodic rotations, including nights and weekends.
Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties Include:
Answers emergency and non-emergency calls made to the SFPD phone line.
Gathers and relays appropriate information to appropriate personnel and dispatches officers accordingly.
Monitors SFPD radio traffic for issues or requests for assistance.
Accesses and gathers information from the Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), as well as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) databases as needed.
Staffs the SFPD front desk and performs a variety of reception and support functions as needed.
Monitors burglar and fire alarms as well as campus security cameras, initiating the appropriate police and/or fire response as necessary.
Maintains the database for parking tickets and moving violations.
Assists with maintaining college key inventory including issuance and return of keys.
Manages lost and found items, including logging and tracking all items reported or submitted to the police department as well as working with the college property manager to turn over unclaimed property for future surplus sales.
Prepares basic reports, completes data entry, and performs other administrative support duties as needed.
Strictly honors the privacy, security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required: A high school diploma or equivalent. Must currently possess or successfully acquire the 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within six (6) months of employment and must become FCIC and NCIC certified.
Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted as well as supplemental background checks and reference checks conducted by the SFPD.
