Ivy Tech Bloomington is searching for part-time adjunct faculty to teach courses for the Building & Property maintenance certificate. Adjuncts make $46.75 per contact hour. Looking for individuals who possess the following:
* demonstrated expertise in the safe use of hand and power tools commonly used in building maintenance and plumbing trades.
* Proven ability to build and frame wood and metal stud partitions, including sizing and installing steel headers.
* Skilled in drywall installation, repair, and finishing techniques.
* Proficiency in basic painting methods, including proper application of sealants and caulk.
* Experience installing pre-hung doors and windows, including alignment and weatherproofing.
* Familiarity with identifying and repairing exterior building defects, including siding installation and repair.
* Understanding of insulation principles and hands-on experience with various installation techniques.
* Working knowledge of roofing systems, including inspection and minor repair protocols.
* Experience with flooring and ceiling repair and maintenance across multiple material types.
* Competency in HVAC systems with the ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks.
* Strong communication skills and ability to teach and mentor individuals in a hands-on learning environment.
* Extensive industry experience in plumbing or pipefitting, with demonstrated hands-on expertise in working with plastic, copper, cast-iron, and carbon steel pipe and fittings.
* In-depth knowledge of plumbing fixtures, drain-waste-vent (DWV) systems, and water distribution systems, including both residential and commercial applications.
* Active journeyman or master plumber license, or equivalent industry certification(s); NCCER, OSHA, or similar safety training credentials preferred.
* Previous instructional or training experience in a related field is a plus.
GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
- Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
- Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
- Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
- Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
- Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

A qualified adjunct faculty member, including Dual Credit, Workforce Alignment, and a full-time faculty teaching outside their discipline, meets the technical course standard through one of four routes:
- Possesses a Department of Labor, Bureau for Apprenticeship Training recognized journeyman’s card in a discipline directly related to Building & Property Maintenance, and in journeyman status for two years or more with experience that is specifically linked to Building & Property Maintenance.
Or
- 5 years directly related work experience in the field that is specifically related to Building and Property Maintenance.
Or
- Possesses a current Workplace Specialist License related to Building trades granted by the Indiana Department of Education appropriate to course objectives focused on Building and Plumbing trades.
Or
- Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution and, five years of work experience that is specifically related to Building and Property Maintenance.
Or
- Possesses an earned associate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution directly related to Building and Property Maintenance, and Three years of directly related work experience
