The Center for Leadership & Involvement serves as the core of the co-curricular experience at the University of Chicago. CLI plays a formative role in the Campus and Student Life goal of creating a comprehensive and integrated network of services that support the academic mission and facilitate student learning, engagement, and success.
Job Summary
The Coordinator, Student Involvement serves as a resource for student leaders, supports organizational development, and creates and manages a collection of physical and electronic resources for student organizations. The Coordinator, Student Involvement will advise a diverse portfolio of Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), including components of the UChicago Student Government and its financial committees. This position is also responsible for the Involvement Ambassadors, Peer Advisors, and the coordination and development of several Orientation Week and winter quarter programming for university students. As a member of the Center for Leadership and Involvement, the Coordinator, Student Involvement works with students and staff to actively encourage student involvement in organizations, programs, and student life at the University of Chicago and supports the mission and vision of the office.
Responsibilities
Advise and support a diverse portfolio of student organizations. For the assigned organizations, this could include but is not limited to offering programming advice and assistance, mentoring organizational leadership, attending organizational meetings and events, assessing organizational risk and ensuring compliance with University policy, developing training opportunities and materials, promoting financial competency through fiscal management accountability and skills development, and providing connection to campus resources.
Advise multiple components of the UChicago Student Government, including the Student Government Funding Committee, Program Coordinating Council, and the Council on Academic Teams. Serve as a steward of University resources and work with students to ensure that all policies and procedures are observed.
Hires, trains, mentors, and supervises team of Involvement Ambassadors. Works with these students to create one-on-one appointment opportunities to advise and mentor students seeking involvement opportunities
Assists in the hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising of a team of Peer Advisors alongside the Assistant Director of Student Involvement. Works with these students to advise and support a diverse portfolio of student organizations
Plan and organize the annual Student Activity Resource Fair (SARF) and Winter Welcome, the annual RSO Fairs.
Coordinate with recognized student organizations, campus departments, and vendors to participate while managing event logistics and marketing, bringing between 800-1,500 attendees
Plan and organize the Blueprint Barbeque event, an orientation program to introduce first-year students to involvement opportunities on campus. This includes working with campus partners and Student Government on coordinating event logistics and marketing, outside vendors on event specifics, and student organizations on participation.
Serve as a member of the CLI team and assist with various office programs and projects. This includes attending and monitoring major CLI and the University events and other duties as assigned
Coordinates with the students and staff to develop activities, programs, and initiatives related to student life and/or community involvement. Develops and implements straightforward programming.
Markets student activities programming throughout the year. Develops and implements protocols for evaluating the effectiveness of programs.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in liberal arts.
- Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or student personnel.
Experience:
- Demonstrated success in working with diverse and complex student organizations.
- Experience working with students and advising student organizations in a student affairs or student life environment.
- Event planning experience.
- Experience in organizational bookkeeping or budget management.
- A minimum of one year of experience managing projects or programs.
- Prior experience in the preparation and presentation of workshops.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and conflict-resolution techniques.
- Must be able to work independently and carry out assignments and projects without detailed instructions.
Preferred Competencies
- The ability to understand the needs of the University of Chicago community and work with students, faculty, and staff in a wide range of situations is essential.
Working Conditions
- Evening and weekend work required, including flexible work hours and availability to attend to emergency situations on campus as needed.
