Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Residence Life or Assistant Director of Housing
Operations, the Residence Director (RD) is responsible for the supervision of a full-time
Assistant Residence Director (ARD) and a team of undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs) in
order to foster a supportive environment within their residential area that promotes residential
learning and a sense of belonging among students.
This is a full-time, 12-month, live-in position.
In addition to the day-to-day residential functions,
RD will serve in a collateral assignment; such as Student Leader Selection, Housing
Operations, Community Service, Community Standards, Living Learning Communities or
Programming. RDs also serve on the RD on-call rotation. This live-in role requires the RD to
maintain their primary residence in the assigned on-campus housing.
Key Outcomes
30%: Departmental Initiatives Support- Responsibilities shared across five Residence Directors to be assigned based on experience and interest
Lead and implement residential education efforts, including Living-Learning
Communities, RA engagement programs, and departmental signature initiatives
Serve as a liaison between the Office of Residence Life, academic departments, and students to ensure meaningful Living Learning Communities experiences
Oversee residential programming initiatives, including the creation and tracking of educational and engagement-based events
Facilitate recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes for student leadership positions within Residence Life
Assist with the coordination and implementation of Housing Operations, including housing selection, roommate matching programs, room assignments, policy
enforcement, room changes, and break housing
Serve as a departmental liaison to the Office of Community Standards, supporting the
adjudication process and conduct training for RA staff
Partner with campus and community organizations to create community service opportunities aligned with student interests and academic goals
Coordinate and manage a summer functional area such as summer housing, wellness
programs, orientation, or RA training and development
Collaborate with campus partners to enhance student transition, retention, and success
through targeted residential programming
25%: Residential Community Management
Manage occupancy processes, including student check-ins/check-outs, room changes, and completion of Room and Building Condition Reports
Coordinate key community operations such as fire, health, and safety inspections, damage billing, and roommate agreements
Serve as a resource and advocate for residential students and RA staff, offering individualized support and implementing initiatives to promote learning, community, and belonging
25%: Student Conduct and On-Call
Participate in the RD on-call rotation to respond to psychological, medical, maintenance, and Title IX emergencies following established protocols
Serve as a conduct officer, adjudicating residential policy violations and facilitating conflict resolution in alignment with the Office of Community Standards
Provide crisis response and support during high-impact campus events and as needed with short notice
20%: Staff Supervision
Supervise, train, and evaluate a 10-month, full-time Assistant Residence Director
Provide direct oversight, mentorship, and performance evaluation for a team of paraprofessional Resident Assistants
Facilitate ongoing professional development and leadership training opportunities for residential staff
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
Previous experience in Residence Life and/or Student Affairs required.
Passion for serving vulnerable populations and supporting the non-profit sector as well as the sincere desire to work with and support students.
Enthusiasm and creativity.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, social media platforms, and graphic design experience through programs such as Canva.
Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. May work alternate hours to accommodate for night and weekend coverage.
