LAB HELPER B
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lab Helper B (casual) to assist the Lab Supervisor with wet chemistry laboratory work. The incumbent will assist in conducting tests, collecting data, and preparing and maintaining a clean laboratory environment before and after experiments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the characterization of lithium iron phosphate for EV battery production, and calcium carbonate phosphate in solid and dissolved form for phosphorus recovery (SEM, EDS, Raman spectroscopy, particle size analysis)
Assist in conducting wet chemistry experiments, which involve collecting data and conducting particle size analysis.
Assist in preparing reports and presentations, updating manuals and datasheets as required
Keep the wet chemistry laboratory work area clean and orderly, and ensure all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma is required
Has a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience working in a laboratory environment is required
Undergraduate degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry is an asset
Previous work experience in a wet chemistry lab and with materials characterization (SEM, EDS, Raman spectroscopy, particle size analysis) and experience with phosphorus chemistry is an asset.
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Well-organized, self-motivated, and excellent previous work attendance
Dynamic team player and works well with others.
