Job Summary
The Learning Platform Technologist, an integral member of the Instructional Design team within Faculty Services, will be instrumental in enhancing teaching and learning experiences at the Booth School of Business through technology integration. This role involves providing expert consultation to faculty members on effectively incorporating technology, specifically Canvas, into their in-person, blended, and online classes. Responsibilities include managing and supporting Canvas and other educational tools.
Additionally, this position requires collaboration with various departments to assess, choose, and support technology solutions and provide best practices for their use. The Learning Platform Technologist will also assist faculty in the creation and management of their personal webpages.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and TAs to create, maintain, and organize Canvas sites. This includes one-on-one consultations, training, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
- Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves technical problems related to Canvas and implement effective and highly responsive remediation efforts and/or workaround solutions.
- Collects and analyzes data from Canvas analytics, tool usage, tool audits, user feedback, etc., to make informed decisions and offer recommendations.
- Collaborates with Academic Technology Solutions (ATS) and vendors to plan, test, implement, and support system design changes, modifications, and updates for Canvas and other tools.
- Creates and maintains Canvas documentation for the Booth community (faculty, staff, TAs, and students).
- Manages Canvas Subaccount and Booth Canvas account work (managing roles, announcements, LTI tools, groups, enrollments, organizations, etc.)
- Oversees the addition of new LTI tool integrations and troubleshoots current integrations (Harvard Business Publishing, McGraw-Hill, WordPress, Cengage, and others).
- Stays current with Canvas updates, LTI tools, including GenAI-based tools, and other emerging trends and technologies to support innovative teaching and learning.
- Develops resources and services, including tailored training programs, documentation, online reference materials, learning modules, and seminars ranging from basic online course management skills to the advanced application of technology in teaching.
- Maintains a high level of familiarity with quality assurance processes (Quality Matters-QM, Online Learning Consortium-OLC, or Open SUNY Course Quality Review-OSCQR) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to advise and support faculty, staff, and TAs when creating courses in the LMS.
- Provides guidance and support to faculty regarding their personal website options.
- Maintains a network of relationships with colleagues across campus, other institutions, and professional affiliations on an ongoing basis.
- Collaborate with the Instructional Design team to assist with larger-scale technology initiatives, support faculty, and work creatively and strategically to further the mission of the school.
- With some direction from others, performs a variety of IT activities supporting an e-learning environment, such as designing curriculum content.
- Analyzes resources and services ranging from basic online courses to application of technology in teaching. This competence is developed by performing structured work assignments.
- Monitors and analyzes trends, identifies opportunities, and explores innovative approaches to teaching and learning problems. Works with other units across campus to aggregate services in an academic context.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

- At least one year of professional work experience in an education-related field.
- Working with faculty or instructors in a higher education environment.
- Collecting and analyzing data from LMS analytics to support decisions and offer recommendations.
- Developing and delivering technical training and documentation to a non-technical audience.
- Providing service or support in an academic environment, including knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and legal requirements, such as FERPA.
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes (Online Learning Consortium-OLC or Open SUNY Course Quality Review-OSCQR) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Administration experience in a Learning Management System (LMS).
- Proficient in Canvas, including course design.
- Expertise in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical problems related to Canvas LMS and other technologies, and implementing effective and highly responsive remediation efforts and workaround solutions.
- Proficient with LTI tools, including GenAI-based tools, and other emerging trends and technologies to support innovative teaching and learning.

Working Conditions
- This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
- Has a flexible work schedule with availability to work some evenings and weekends.
