Description
Purpose
Provides professional security services for the University campus by controlling access to all buildings; patrolling the grounds and facilities; providing written reports based on daily activities and performing specific duties pertaining to the safety, security, peace and order, and public relations of the University campus community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Follows the daily requirements for building locking and unlocking procedures.
- Periodically inspects buildings and grounds during the shift to ensure no physical damage.
- Patrols the parking lots regularly to ensure traffic flow is not disturbed.
- Write parking tickets when necessary.
- Impounds unauthorized vehicles according to the established procedures.
- Assists visitors, students, faculty, and employees with vehicle problems, directions, and information as requested.
- Participates in organized programs for training, crime prevention, and community relations.
- Write reports as necessary according to department protocol and document all incidents as required.
- Develops good working relationships with other campus departments, faculty, and students.
- Answer the telephone and relay all the information to the correct personnel.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Life University mission.
- Lock and unlock doors on campus and surrounding property.
- Expected to be familiar with and support the mission of Life University and Campus Safety.

- Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and/or Experience
A High School Diploma (or equivalent) with some security or law enforcement experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Possesses some knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Able to perform duties independently under general supervision.
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, adhering to strict timelines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on conflict resolution.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate at all levels.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
- Able to write reports and business correspondence.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to perform CPR and basic life saving activities.
- Ability to observe and define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Certifications, Licenses, registrations
A Valid Georgia Driver’s License is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduation from a certified police academy, security school or military police training school.
2. AA or AS Degree in Criminal Justice from an accredited College/University and 2 years of law enforcement or
security experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The nature of work requires an ability to operate security vehicles, computer equipment, and radio.
- Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collects, compiles, compares, and prepares work documents, set-up and maintain work files.
- Must be able to lift between 40 lbs individually and up to 100 lbs. with assistance; retrieving and placing materials on high shelves and on floor-level shelves; standing, walking; carrying; grasping; hearing; seeing; sitting; kneeling; climbing; balancing; stooping; crouching and reaching.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is mostly performed in an outside working environment which includes include heat, freezing rain, cold, snow, etc.
- Most police and public safety activities expose officers to potential danger on a regular basis.
- Each officer must be skilled in the use of issued equipment.
- This position requires flexible and rotating work shifts.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- One year of clerical and computer experience, two years of relevant work experience is preferred.
