Indian River State College is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Computer Information Technology (CIT) Lab Technician to help maintain a dynamic learning environment for our Cybersecurity and Computer Science programs. JOB SUMMARY:
The Computer Information Tech (CIT) Lab Technician maintains an environment that fosters learning, research, and productivity. Responsible for the smooth operation of CIT computer labs to successfully contribute to the institution's technological advancements and educational goals. Organize and maintain the Information Technology Labs. Assist in coordinating and promoting classes and programs in high schools, businesses and industry and assists professors in the preparation of classes.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
Set up labs and assignments for baccalaureate and associate degree Cyber Security and Computer Science courses. Assist faculty in setting up and disassembling configurations for each class. Ensure each lab is prepared and completely set before classes Configure virtual servers supporting curriculum. Install and troubleshoot software. Maintain equipment and instrumentation and repair hardware. Assist in the preparation of teaching materials and facilitates communication within the Computer Information Technology Department. Tutor Information Technology students as appropriate (assist students with their lab work during open lab hours, provide support for capstone projects, assist with projects and assignments in the on-line environment. Instruct and coordinate the activities of part time student lab assistants. Monitor firewall intrusion detection systems in student labs. Assist department in implementing strategies to increase retention and program completion. Maintain weekly meetings with faculty to discuss upcoming laboratory activities and specific needs. Produce professional reports as needed. Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s Degree in Information Technology,
- Minimum one (1) year work experience Information Technology (preferred).
- Demonstrate organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle conflict professionally;
- Ability to work independently as well as with others and be self-motivated;
- Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with diverse populations including students, faculty, staff, and supervisors/administrators;
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Physical skills required include the ability to lift heavy boxes and materials, to move equipment from room to room, and to work for extended periods at a computer station. It also requires manual dexterity to accurately manipulate biological and chemical materials, operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
