The Opportunity
The Department of Aerospace Engineering, at the Daytona Beach Campus seeks a post-doctoral researcher to develop novel mathematical and computational tools for the fundamental understanding and engineering design of safe autonomy for autonomous vehicles.
The post-doctoral researcher should have a strong background in autonomous vehicles, optimal control, differential games, and autonomy. They will join a project on enhancing safety and resiliency in autonomous vehicles that use Artificial Intelligence, including Large Language Models. Possible topics specific to AI may include integrated adversarial detection, conformal prediction, and prompt filtering. Techniques relevant to safety and resiliency in autonomous vehicles may include optimal control, differential games, safety governors or control barrier functions.
Primary Job Functions and Duties
- Conduct research on mathematical and computational tools for the fundamental understanding and engineering design of safe autonomy for autonomous vehicles. Publish results in scientific publications.
- Help set up autonomous vehicles lab, including ordering robots and testing them.
- As possible, make sure undergraduate and/or master's students operate robots safely in lab, that they are aware of possible safety issues and are following safety protocols.

Qualifications
Required Education and Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or other doctorate level equivalent in Autonomous Vehicles and Control Systems
- Strong background in autonomous vehicles, optimal control, differential games, and autonomy
- Ability to do advanced mathematics in the field of control systems
- Ability to write scientific publications
