The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Lab Coordinator position. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The position will report to Dr. Brae Anne McArthur, Assistant Professor (teaching) in Psychology and Full Member of the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute.
The incumbent will play a key role in supporting the research projects conducted at the Trailblazing Research for Equitable Care Lab, including conducting literature reviews, coding tasks and entering data. They will also perform tasks and routines to support the operations of the Trailblazing Research for Equitable Care Lab. Strong communication, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills are critical.
This position is located primarily at the Department of Psychology on Main Campus.
Primary Purpose of the Position (Key purpose, functions, roles include but are not limited to):
- Data monitoring, entry, cleaning, scoring, and organizing in SPSS.
- Creation of data coding manuals for ease of exploring data.
- Manage time effectively to complete project work and demonstrate competency in problem solving when unexpected situations arise.
- Maintain accurate data collection, organization and recording.
- Maintain accurate administration of research protocols.
- Submits ethics applications, amendments, and renewals to Research Ethics Board(s).
- Record findings to contribute and collaborate on publications and presentations within the field of research.
- Work closely with the Principal Investigator and other research staff in areas of protocol development, management of multiple research projects and execution of lab activities
- Ability to build exceptional interpersonal relationships, lead and consult others.
- Manage multiple research projects by providing support and delegating tasks to lab members effectively based on project needs and individual strengths, including reviewing data. collection and monitoring progress.
- Conduct in-person or virtual volunteer interviews and assess students¿ qualifications.
- Train and onboard new lab members in lab protocols and a range of research techniques, while providing ongoing guidance and answering technical or procedural questions.
- Ability to reach out to and coordinate with community partners and/or research collaborators, to support ongoing projects.
- Preparation of documentation for student funding (PURE, Canada Summer Jobs).
- Understanding of the broad research team, including providing analytical and problem-solving abilities to support the Principal Investigator.
- Proficiency with website developer software to maintain and update research website.
- Coordinate lab finances and expense reimbursements.
- Manage the physical lab environment, including organization of workspaces and inventory of supplies.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Acting as a primary contact for team members.
- Contact and schedule research participants.
- Conduct participant interviews.
- Assist with oversight and data collection for meta-anlayses.
- Monitor participation in on-going studies.
- Code and extract data from video or audio recordings.
- Collect, organize, and enter data from research studies into SPSS database.
- Prepare and disseminate research results by running reports and presenting to PI.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A BA or BSc in Psychology or related field.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
Assets:
- Experience working in a lab conducting and disseminating research.
- General knowledge of developmental psychopathology.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to work in a team environment with lab associates.
- Ability to follow specific directions and research protocols.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with undergraduate students, graduate students, research participants and professors.
- High degree of familiarity with SPSS is an asset.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills including an ability to prioritize work, to work under pressure, and to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with computer software for writing and presentations, databases, database design, and electronic medical record programs.
