The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.
Job Summary
The Research Technologist will work on research projects involving vitro and in vivo investigation of novel small molecule inhibitors in the treatment of leukemia, development of transgenic animal models of leukemia, harvesting and cryopreserving hematopoietic tissues from these animals. The position will also include the isolation, processing, banking, and analysis of peripheral blood, bone marrow, and apheresis samples.
Responsibilities
Under supervision, the Research Technologist will plan, design, and execute experiments, adapt existing procedures to the needs of the project, troubleshoot, and contribute intellectually to the project.
Perform support activities and lab maintenance.
Conduct experiments for projects investigating new experimental therapeutics in leukemias. This includes traditional molecular biology (wet lab) experiments such as Western blotting, cell culture, in vitro drug experiments as well as in vivo work focusing on treatment of mice harboring leukemias, and ultimately harvesting organs from these animals when experimental endpoint is met.
Maintain and order lab supplies.
Maintenance of mouse colonies, breeding transgenic models of leukemia.
Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
