Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, Terre Haute Campus, in cooperation with the State of Indiana’s Boiler and Pressure Vessel Division, is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable instructor to lead a specialized training course on the Terre Haute, Indiana Campus, designed to prepare students for certification through the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.
The course equips participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to sit for the National Board In-Service Commission Examination, a critical step toward becoming an Authorized Inspector, Owner-User Inspector, or obtaining Jurisdictional Competency Recognition.

Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and guide students in the application and interpretation of ASME Code standards
- Deliver instruction on inspection principles, safety compliance, and pressure vessel design
- Prepare students for successful completion of the National Board Examination
- Develop students’ ability to identify key problem elements and apply relevant codes and formulas from National Board materials
- Integrate real-world examples, case studies, and testing strategies into the curriculum
- Foster a supportive and structured learning environment for students with varied technical backgrounds
Ideal Candidate Profile:
The ideal instructor is a seasoned professional with a solid background in pressure vessel inspection or a related field, who is passionate about educating the next generation of certified inspectors. The candidate should have a strong grasp of inspection concepts, be detail-oriented, and committed to student success.
Course Details:
- Audience: Adult learners, career changers, and professionals pursuing certification
- Prerequisites for students: High school diploma, basic algebra knowledge, and ideally 3+ years of field experience
- Instruction includes test-taking strategies and guidance on identifying code references based on problem keywords
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum); associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred
- Significant industry experience in boiler and pressure vessel inspection, design, or regulation
- National Board Commissioned Inspector credential preferred
- Strong familiarity with RCI-1 NB-263 (Rules for Commissioned Inspectors) and ASME codes
- Prior teaching or training experience is a plus
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex technical content clearly
- Comfortable working with adult learners and helping them meet certification requirements
