Position Summary
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Public Safety supports the Director in ensuring the safety and security of the Guilford College community. This role assists with daily operations, reporting, training, and coordination of campus safety initiatives. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with campus partners and public safety personnel to maintain a safe and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Security Oversight:
- Assist in maintaining a campus security approach that is educational and respectful of Guilford College’s diverse community.
- Review daily incident and accident reports for accuracy and content.
- Participate in meetings with campus partners to discuss students of concern and relevant incident reports.
- Support the development and dissemination of campus safety awareness materials.
- Assist with the preparation of reports on incidents, crime statistics, and officer activities in compliance with Cleary Act standards.
- Conduct physical security checks and document findings.
- Support training sessions on crime prevention and campus safety for students, faculty, and staff.
Safety Management:
- Work with the Facilities Department and other campus offices to implement safety measures.
- Assist in maintaining and updating emergency response protocols.
- Support the Director in coordinating emergency operations and safety drills.
Personnel Support:
- Assist in training and onboarding new Public Safety personnel.
- Monitor officer work schedules and assist with adjustments as needed.
- Support performance evaluations and maintain training records.
Leadership and Communication:
- Serve as a liaison between Public Safety and campus departments.
- Stay informed on laws, police procedures, and safety techniques.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with campus policies, fire codes, and parking regulations.
- Support the coordination of campus notification systems for timely alerts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience in public safety, law enforcement, or campus security.
- Prior experience in campus security, law enforcement, or emergency response is a plus.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Familiarity with Cleary Act compliance and campus safety protocols is a plus.
