Job Summary
The Project Manager, Programs and Strategy is responsible for overseeing the development, execution, and evaluation of strategic initiatives related to student recruitment, new program development, and continuous academic improvement at the School of Engineering. This role is responsible for data analysis and policy development to align SoE’s academic programs with institutional priorities.
This position involves collaboration across the Faculty of Applied Science at both the Okanagan and Point Grey campuses.
This position’s primary work location will be at the Okanagan Campus and occasional international and domestic travel may be required. Evening and weekend work may be required.
Organizational Status
Reporting to the Associate Director, Programs, this position works closely with the Associate Director Programs and Kaizen and collaborates with the Executive Director, Strategy and Planning at the Faculty of Applied Science.
Work Performed
Student Recruitment, Yield, and Admissions
Develops, manages, and executes a strategic student recruitment plan, yield plan, and admission plan that identifies and leverages opportunities in support of the enrolment goals of the School of Engineering.
Oversees targeted recruitment strategies focusing on international students, female-identifying, indigenous students, and other underrepresented groups.
Collects, analyzes, and presents data on student application, acceptance, registration, recruitment initiatives, yield initiatives, melt initiates and enrollment to make recommendations on recruitment strategies.
Continually evaluates and assesses the effectiveness of recruitment strategies to ensure target recruitment numbers are met. Evaluation includes post-recruitment event or trip reports, analysis of enrolment data of previous years, and researching marketing and recruitment trends.
Manages and evaluates outreach and engagement initiatives, ensuring sustained student interest and program visibility.
Manages recruitment materials and resources from marketing assets to collateral items.
Program Planning and Development
Leads and facilitates annual program planning activities, including curriculum scheduling, new course development, and academic policy updates.
Manages the development of new degree and certificate programs including writing, reviewing, and analyzing complex documents for Senate and ministry approval.
Creates strategies for and monitors execution of new program launches.
Works with faculty leadership to assess and implement strategic initiatives that support the evolution of academic programs.
Program Continuous Improvement
Develops and maintains performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPI’s) to assess program success.
Conducts data-driven analysis of student and faculty performance, using insights to enhance academic offerings.
Ensures continuous program improvements by monitoring enrollment trends, student outcomes, and emerging industry needs.
Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students from specific student populations (including underrepresented groups and students who were admitted via specific pathways) to make recommendations.
Creates systems for data collection, reporting, and archival, ensuring informed decision making.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Requires a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures of the University and the Faculty of Applied Science and the School of Engineering. Missed targets, incorrect data, and/or inefficient operations would negatively impact applicant and yield numbers as well as the financial health of the School of Engineering.
Decision-making is based on consideration of outcomes and consequences of actions. Poor decision making would negatively affect the reputation and credibility of the Faculty of Applied Science and the University of British Columbia. Not considering the intercultural aspects of communication with and commitment to students can adversely affect the incumbent’s ability to function in a culturally diverse environment. Supervision Received The Project Manager, Projects and Strategy works independently under the general direction of the Associate Director of Programs at the School of Engineering, and may receive strategic directives from the Executive Director, Strategy and Planning at the Faculty of Applied Science.
Supervision Given
Will provide supervision and give directives to other M&P employees, BCGEU administrative staff and/or student employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
Minimum of three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
Project management certification
Experience in student recruitment
Exceptional oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Exercises initiative, diplomacy, tact, resourcefulness and sound judgment.
Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues and propose effective solutions.
Knowledge of the University’s and Faculty’s undergraduate programs, admission criteria, student services and student life preferred.
Ability to think conceptually. (i.e., use creative, conceptual, or inductive reasoning or thought processes to identify patterns in complex data, and identify key or underlying issues in complex situations).
Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
Understanding of the Indigenous culture and barriers to education would be an asset.
