Job Summary
- The Rehab Research Program (RRP) Research Assistant will provide research support to the research program under the supervision of Dr. Janice Eng.
Organizational Status
- RRP Research Assistant will receive work direction from the research team and report to Dr. Janice Eng. Will work closely with other staff to fulfill the operational requirements of the research group.
Work Performed
- Write standard content for the research newsletter.
- Prepare study advertisement and promotional material for study subject recruitment and conduct.
- Participate in screening, consenting, enrollment, and data collection.
- Perform data entry and summary statistics in a timely and accurate manner.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
- The RRP Research Assistant must be able to work independently and within a team and exercise considerable judgment on a daily basis. Errors in performance of the above-related duties could have a significant impact on research projects.
- There are time sensitive matters with deadlines that must be met, missing such deadlines could jeopardize the results to research study.
- Inappropriate interactions with research study participants could result in study participants and their families becoming frustrated, angry or seeking compensation.
- A high degree of accuracy, a thorough understanding of policies and practices, the ability to anticipate, investigate and resolve problems, and the ability to meet conflicting demands are expected.
Supervision Received
- Work closely with team members of the research team. Work with general direction and supervision from Dr. Eng or a senior Research Coordinator/Post-doctoral Fellow, as part of a collaborative team.
- This RRP Research Assistant will be expected to work independently in accordance with established objectives; and exercise initiative and judgment in performing all work- related function.
Supervision Given
- None but may explain work sequences to others.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in a program related to health research, exercise, rehabilitation, or disability.
- Have positive attitude, self-motivation and enthusiasm and experience with seniors and those with chronic conditions, also need to be able to work with older adults with disability.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Power point) required.
- Must demonstrate sound judgment, critical thinking, logical decision making.
- Must possess strong problem-solving skills, able to anticipate and resolve problems in a timely, effective, ethical, professional, and constructive manner.
- Self-directed, highly self-motivated, assertive, enthusiastic and honest in the performance of all duties.
- Must maintain competency in regulatory and institutional requirements to conduct studies in human subjects (e.g., ICH/GCP guidelines, Tri-Council regulations).
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
