Department: Finance and Administrative Services
General Statement of Job
The Graphic Designer I designs and produces College printed publications and promotional materials for the Finance and Administrative Services division.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Produces Desktop publishing for assigned projects.
- Provides layout and design for various print publications, including but not limited to brochures, fliers, posters, postcards, and reports.
- Creates artwork, images, text, and graphic design for publications and reports.
- Works as part of a team to ensure assigned projects are accurate and timely.
- Prepares routine correspondence, forms, reports, and other materials using standard electronic and computer-based equipment.
- Interacts and provides customer service (via email and telephone) with students, staff, and the public in a positive manner and answers questions regarding department matters.
- Documents and maintains ongoing status reports of projects.
- Meets critical deadlines.
- Presents and proposes design solutions to supervisor and all division departments.
- Produces photography and video content according to project specifications.
- Uses technology and software to create images and layout of websites and printed pages.
- Creates videos and video content for websites and presentations.
- Prepares worksheets, graphs, dashboards, flowcharts, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets and presentations, to assemble and/or format data and/or reports.
- Monitors and updates websites for the Finance and Administrative Services division, as needed.
- Coordinates projects with departments in the division.
- Collaborates with other departments, such as Public Relations and Marketing, for college-level projects.
- Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Associate's degree in Graphic Design, Art, or related field required.
- At least one (1) year of relevant work experience, preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
- Familiarity with video software.
- Desktop publishing knowledge with strong graphic design and page layout skills.
- Proficient in the use of graphic design software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
- Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
