Position Summary:
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technology Developer will play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting the MRI research platform and program at the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre (BIC). This includes taking the lead in pulse sequence development and optimization efforts, exploring innovative imaging approaches in collaboration with MR Unit team members and platform users, and staying up to date in the latest MRI developments to collaborate effectively with other neuroimaging sites internationally. Important aspects will include:
- Actively participate in MRU meetings and contribute to the roadmap discussions.
- Communicate with scientists to optimize imaging techniques for their research projects.
- Take charge of designing, coding, testing, and maintaining acquisition sequences that are critical to BIC research programs.
- Mentor and guide new technical staff to foster their growth and proficiency.
- Be an active member of the international MRI community to remain up to date on the latest methodologies that would benefit the BIC.
In this role, the MRI Technology Developer will contribute to shaping the future of MRI research at the BIC and play a crucial role in advancing research initiatives at The Neuro.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Enhancing the portfolio of available MRI techniques available to users by suggesting, developing, and implementing new techniques and improvements on existing ones for image acquisition and analysis.
- Offering expertise to define objectives for existing and future imaging infrastructure.
- Participate in setting strategic objectives for MRU, aligning with the co-directors, and establishing harmonized protocols and workflows.
- Creating and editing MRI documentation for sequences, protocols, and ethics applications.
- Review MRI protocols of ethics applications submitted to the Magnetic Resonance Research Committee (only for projects involving healthy controls).
- Maintain a strong collaboration with the imaging infrastructure manufacturers, such as Siemens.
- Collaborating seamlessly within the MRU team including the MRI technicians, MR research staff, RF engineering, and Siemens Collaboration Scientist. Work with the MRU team to maintain high quality imaging services throughout the year.
- Collaborating with McGill researchers, external users and collaborators, and their teams to support their research projects performed at the MRI, build infrastructure and platforms, plan and execute special projects. Contribute to publications by reviewing MRI protocol description, guiding and reviewing image analysis, and reviewing the interpretation of MRI data.
- Participate in local, national and international meetings to remain up to date on MRI techniques and facilitate international collaborations.
- Mentor new graduate students and staff within the MRU and its user community.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Demonstrated expertise in magnetic resonance physics (degree, thesis, published articles)
- Experience in pulse sequence programming, preferably for Siemens scanners
- Experience in ultra-high field imaging
