General Statement of Job
The Welding Trainer provides hands-on instruction in welding technologies, equipping students with the skills, certifications, and confidence needed to thrive in high-demand welding careers. The trainer delivers curriculum aligned with industry standards and prepares students for employment in welding and fabrication roles. Training areas include welding techniques, safety protocols, blueprint reading, material preparation, and quality control.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Instructs students in welding processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).
- Teaches foundational skills, including blueprint reading, metal fabrication, and material preparation.
- Implements curriculum aligned with industry certifications such as AWS (American Welding Society) and NCCER standards.
- Develops and delivers engaging, hands-on welding training activities tailored to program objectives.
- Demonstrates and enforces safety protocols, proper equipment handling, and workplace safety practices.
- Evaluates and grades student welds based on industry standards and program requirements.
- Provides individualized support and guidance to students to achieve learning objectives and certifications.
- Maintains welding lab equipment, ensuring it is safe, functional, and available for student use.
- Prepares and monitors individualized training plans to support student progression and timely program completion.
- . Tracks and reports student attendance, performance, and progress to program coordinators.
- Collaborates with industry partners and staff to ensure program relevance and maintain alignment with workforce needs.
- Participates in program development, updates, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance training outcomes.
- Stays up-to-date on industry trends, welding technologies, certifications, and instructional best practices.
- Travels to off-site training locations within the College district as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- College Certificate in Welding or a related field required. Associate degree in Welding or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1 (one) year of experience in training, mentoring, or instructing students or employees in welding or safety practices required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in hands-on instructional methods with the ability to effectively teach welding techniques and concepts to diverse learners.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Strong understanding of welding processes, including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW, as well as material properties, blueprint reading, and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with welding lab equipment maintenance and industry-specific tools/software (e.g., CAD or welding simulation tools).
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and ensuring program goals are met.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred for effective communication with a diverse student population.
- Flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends as required, with reliable transportation to travel within the College district.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety regulations, technical manuals, blueprints, and procedural documentation relevant to welding.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to address changing instructional needs or environments.

Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
- Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

- Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
