Position SummaryThis full-time dual-role position is divided between two departments at UCLA. During the academic year, the incumbent will work as a Food Service Worker in UCLA Dining Services, and during the summer months, they will transition to a Senior Custodian role with UCLA Housing Operations & Safety. Over the course of 12 months, the role will consist of approximately 75% Food Service Worker duties and 25% Senior Custodian responsibilities. Food Service Worker Responsibilities (Academic Year - 75%): Under the direction of Dining Service Managers or Production Staff, the incumbent will provide courteous and professional service to guests. Assist with food preparation, customer service, and sanitation. Prepare single-step cold food items following standardized recipes and approved production methods. Ensure food is presented at the correct temperature and with appropriate garnishes. Maintain cleanliness of work areas, dining rooms, and food preparation equipment. Organize refrigerators, freezers, and storage rooms. Collect and dispose of trash from tables and floor areas. Perform additional duties as assigned. Senior Custodian Responsibilities (Summer - 25%): Under the direction of the Housekeeping Manager or Housing Operations Manager, the incumbent will provide housekeeping services for On-Campus Housing Residential Halls, Conference Facilities, and surrounding exterior areas. Operate various cleaning equipment to maintain guest rooms, public areas, restrooms, and office/meeting spaces. Perform daily maid services during peak periods, ensuring high-quality customer service standards and perform additional duties as assigned. This role requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in both food service and custodial operations.

Qualifications0-1 year experience in food preparation and general maintenance in a kitchen or dining area. (Preferred) 0-1 year experience in a custodial or housekeeping position (Preferred) Ability to read, understand and speak English sufficient to determine and carry out job duties. Ability to interact in a team based environment. (Required)Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload. Ability to stand continuously throughout an eight hour shift on uncarpeted surfaces. (Required)Ability to learn and apply the rules and procedures of sanitation and safety as they apply to production, storage and service within a food establishment. (Required)Ability to stand, climb, stoop, push and crouch for extended periods of time as required to complete job duties. Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to fifty pounds such as bags of supplies, filled stock pots, and cases of food products. (Required)Skill in interacting effectively with guests and team members and managers in a high volume public contact setting using positive body language, direct eye contact, active listening, and problem solving techniques. (Required)Ability to operate equipment such as mixers, food processors, food cutters, meat slicers, blenders, hot wells, radio communication devices, hydraulic lifts, trash compactors, ware washing, garbage disposal, and refuse pulper equipment. (Preferred)Ability to measure dry and liquid food stuffs in units of measurement such as cup, pint, quart, pound, and ounce to properly adhere to recipe and production requirements. (Preferred)Ability to read labels on cleaning solutions, written directions and work schedules. Working knowledge of fundamental janitorial and custodial procedures. Ability to properly use, control and inventory equipment and supplies. Working knowledge of carpet and floor care techniques. (Required)Ability to clean and prepare guest rooms for incoming guests. Ability to recognize when a guestroom has been adequately prepared for an incoming guest. Ability to recognize when public areas are adequately neat and clean. (Required)Skill in operating a variety of industrial and/or janitorial equipment including buffers, waxers, scrubbers, polishers and vacuum cleaners. (Required)Ability to perform various custodial duties that involve walking, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, stooping and crouching. (Required)Ability to work overtime, swing shifts or weekends as assigned in order to meet operational needs. Ability to work independently or with others as directed or assigned. Ability to interact politely and courteously with University staff, guests and residents. (Required)
