JOB SUMMARY
The Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting in research activities related to the ‘Patient and Caregiver Valued Outcomes in Liver Transplant’ Study. The Research Assistant will work closely with the study team and relevant stakeholders and partners to support all aspects of the study.
ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS
The Research Assistant will be physically located at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology & Evaluation (C2E2). C2E2 is a centre within the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI). The incumbent will report to the Director, C2E2 and receives supervision from the Study Research Coordinator on a day-to-day basis.
WORK PERFORMED
The Research Assistant performs the following:
- Assist with recruitment for the research study.
- Assist in the development of research study documentation.
- Work with the study coordinator to prepare documentation for ethics review (e.g., consent forms, and other study-related documentation).
- Under the supervision of the study coordinator conduct face to face interviews with patients and caregivers.
- Under the supervision of the study coordinator organise, code and analyse the qualitative interview data.
- Support aspects of knowledge synthesis, including: conducting literature searches, identifying gaps, and summarizing findings.
- Under the supervision of the investigators prepare materials for meetings and conferences-papers, reports, presentation posters, including tables, graphs, and slides.
- Participate in team meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR
The Research Assistant is required to conduct all research activities in an ethical manner and with adherence to the Tri-Council Policy Statement concerning Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans. Any procedures or data recorded must be accurate and must accurately reflect the work performed. Strict confidentiality must be adhered to at all times. This position acts with considerable independence although close communication and coordination with the research team is essential. The incumbent's doings and demeanor reflect on research done at UBC. Poor decisions or errors may cause loss of reputation for the research team, VCHRI and UBC.
Supervision Received
After initial training, works independently with regular consultation with the Study Research Coordinator.
Supervision Given
This position does not include supervision of other staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree in a health-related discipline preferred.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Experience and proficiency in data collection and analysis for qualitative research (e.g., NVivo).
- Formal training and/or experience in patient-oriented research.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to engage and work with diverse stakeholders including patient and family partners, healthcare providers, policy makers and government.
- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, including community members and marginalized populations.
- Experience with REDCap is an asset.
