We are seeking a knowledgeable and dynamic HVAC Instructor to help prepare students for success in today’s workforce. In this role, you’ll deliver hands-on, high-quality instruction across both Associate of Science and Vocational Certificate programs, develop industry-relevant curriculum, and foster strong community and industry partnerships. You'll play a key role in building a pipeline of skilled technicians through classroom and lab-based learning, student engagement, and program promotion. JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction, this position provides classroom instruction and course supervision within the designated department. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality lectures and labs, developing program curricula, and supporting student success through effective use of the college’s Learning Management System. The role also involves promoting the program, building and maintaining industry partnerships, coordinating advisory board meetings, and contributing to continuing education and workforce training initiatives. This position actively engages in community outreach, fosters an inclusive learning environment, and upholds the college’s mission to deliver workforce-ready education in technical and skilled trades. Professionalism, innovation, and adherence to academic standards and ethics are essential to this role.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Duties
- Teach assigned courses in HVAC at both the A.S. and Vocational Certificate levels using in-person, hybrid, or remote modalities.
- Develop and maintain course materials aligned with industry standards and student learning outcomes.
- Design and update curriculum to reflect current trends, technology, and workforce needs.
- Promote student engagement and support success through timely communication, active learning, and constructive feedback.
- Ensure classroom and lab safety by modeling and enforcing proper safety procedures.
- Track and report student attendance, grades, and outcomes in accordance with college policy.
- Maintain familiarity with and incorporate industry-recognized certifications such as HVAC Excellence and NCCER into instruction.
- Remain current in emerging HVAC technologies and workforce trends.
Program Leadership and Industry Engagement
- Promote the HVAC program within the community and at recruitment events in collaboration with college departments.
- Establish and maintain active relationships with local industry partners.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead HVAC advisory board meetings to ensure program relevance and alignment with employer needs.
- Support workforce development by identifying and implementing short-term and continuing education opportunities that align with regional training demands.
Institutional and Community Involvement
- Serve on assigned college committees to contribute to institutional planning, student success initiatives, and workforce development efforts.
- Represent IRSC and the HVAC program through community outreach, program visibility, and engagement with external stakeholders.
- Participate in department meetings and professional development to enhance instructional practice and program effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in HVAC or a closely related field.
- Minimum of four (4) years of work experience in the HVAC industry.
- Valid License/Certification for HVACR Journeyman, OR NCCER Minimum Level Two HVACR, OR HVAC Excellence Certification, OR North American Technician Excellence Certifications, OR HVAC Contractors License.
- EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
- knowledgeable HVAC Instructor to teach across both Associate of Science and Vocational Certificate levels.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Proficient in relevant software, including Microsoft Office, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and instructional technology.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with HVAC systems, safety procedures, and industry tools.
- Ability to teach both day and evening courses as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) or more years of experience teaching or training in a postsecondary or workforce setting.
- Industry-recognized certifications such as Backflow Prevention, and OSHA 10-Hour Construction.
- Prior experience in curriculum development, program promotion, and advisory board coordination.
- Familiarity with adult learning principles and effective instructional strategies.
- Experience working with community stakeholders or representing institutional programs externally.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements for this position include: Ability to regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; Ability to safely lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds of supplies and/or equipment needed for student training; Manual dexterity and balance required for demonstrating applications; Demonstration of appropriate skills as required by curriculum and standards; Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach with hands and arms, and stoop; Ability to maintain and/or troubleshoot all lab equipment in the lab; Ability to bend down and get on knees while performing different techniques; Ability to present verbal lectures/demonstrations; Vision abilities sufficient to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; Excellent Hand-Eye coordination skills required to demonstrate appropriate skills required of the program; Ability to travel to and pick up miscellaneous supplies from local vendors for materials for student training and make good purchasing decisions or substitutions; Physically demonstrate new and unique methods and materials; IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
