Position Summary
Performs essential duties associated with the effective operation of a research greenhouse facility. This includes working as a part of the horticulture team to maintain and care for research and collection plants in greenhouses and growth chambers. Must effectively communicate with team and Supervisor in addition to all researchers who utilize the facility and must dependably work independently, including on regular weekend shifts. Dependability is a must for the wellbeing of the plants – neglect or insufficient completion of duties can result in serious repercussions of academic research.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Using a familiarity with best horticultural practices, helps the horticulture team to produce plants for critical experiments while conforming to experimental guidelines set out in communication with researchers. This includes tasks such as watering, fertilizing, assisting in pest management, pruning, transplanting, and planting plants independently, including on regular weekend shifts.
- Effectively communicates and learns from with teammates, Supervisor, growers, post-docs, grad students, and PIs regarding experimental design and for success in plant production for achieving experimental goals.
- Assists with general maintenance of the facility and equipment. This includes cleaning and basic maintenance protocols such as changing lightbulbs and washing dishes.
- Assist the team with pest management duties, such as scouting for pests, applying beneficial insects, cleaning equipment, and pruning plants as instructed by the Supervisor and Horticulturist.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Able to work 20 hours a week, including five on each weekend day and some holiday work.

Salary Range
$16.40 - $22.12 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
