Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Academic Advisor provides and/or facilitates educational leadership, curriculum design instruction and assessment, individual academic and personal needs assessment, academic advising, academic counseling and consulting services, collaborations within and outside of the NOVA project, and administrative duties to support the goal of the NOVA project, which is to retain and graduate NOVA participants at EKU.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Master's degree required. Master's degree in the areas of Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Higher Education Administration or Communication preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in advising, instruction, or case management is required.
Licensure & Certifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal skills (particularly in working with a diverse student population), organizational, and management skills are required. The ability to speak comfortably before groups is required. A working knowledge of computers and various office technologies is required. Knowledge of academic policies and procedures of Eastern Kentucky University, the U.S. Department of Higher Education, and higher education is preferred. Knowledge of student development theory and its application to student academic support services is preferred.
Job Duties:
- 35%% - Advises students in matters related to goals, policies, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, course scheduling, academic action and problem resolution. - (Essential)
- 30%% - Teaches an assigned section of NOVA specific courses. - (Essential)
- 25%% - Support the program through the coordination and scheduling of special events, managing social media, and communication, or related activities. - (Essential)
- 10%% - Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned. - (Essential)
