About the Program:
TRIO Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparatory program that provides high school students with the resources and support necessary to successfully complete high school and smoothly transition into the college/university of their choice. TRIO Upward Bound at Ivy Tech Community College - Indianapolis is uniquely positioned to work exclusively with Ben Davis High School students. Our team has been trained and properly equipped to support their students through what many consider to be the most crucial time period in life. Every meeting, program, and experience that we offer has been intentionally created to strengthen our students' belief in self. We are committed to supporting students academically, professionally, and personally to ensure that they reach their full potential.
Key Competencies & Skills Required:
● Program Design & Delivery – Ability to plan and execute engaging, age-appropriate activities that align with academic standards and promote student learning.
● Student Engagement – Demonstrated ability to build rapport with high school students, foster a positive learning environment, and implement innovative, hands-on learning strategies.
● Cultural Competency – Experience working with youth from broad and underserved backgrounds.
● Tech and Administrative Knowledge – Basic tech literacy, documentation, and reporting strategies
● Data Management – Capable of tracking attendance, entering grades, entering information into database, and maintaining records
● Team Collaboration – Willingness to attend staff meetings, share student observations with program staff, and contribute to a supportive team culture.
● Program Coordination & Organization – strong initiative and organizational skills for managing program experiences
● Supervision – Ability to monitor students during academic and enrichment activities as needed
Responsibilities:
The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
● Design,develop, and implement new systems and processes for excellent filing
● Maintain accurate records of program spending and inventory
● Submit regular updates to the Director
● Regular meet deadlines and expectations
● Assist in the daily tasks, including but not limited to; typing and distributing correspondence, answering the phone and directing calls, filing, copying, data entry, translation of documents from English to Spanish, prepare bulk mailings, compile data and retrieve reports
● Assist staff in preparation for activities, workshops, and events
● Communicate student progress and concerns to the Upward Bound team.
Education & Experience:
● Strong interpersonal and communication skill
● Strong problem-solving skills
● Must be friendly, punctual, professional, and a quick learner.
● Must have excellent oral and written communication skills Must be able to manage multiple projects at one time
● Demonstrated ability to work with high school students from underserved communities
● Knowledge of commonly used Microsoft (MS) software and the Google Suite
● Must pass a criminal background check
● Availability for up to 40 hours, but no less than 20 hours per week
