Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, administer accounts. Acts as resource person and resolves problems. Processes or monitors the processing of financial, accounting and payroll transactions. Examines, analyses and reconciles accounting and financial records as well as documents such as bank statements, expenditures, budgets, loans and others. Ensures accuracy and compliance with University, government and granting agency guidelines, as well as accounting, reporting and payroll policies and procedures. Performs various administrative tasks according to the needs of the unit.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Administers clinical trial accounts. Acts as point of contact and resolves problems such as, patient reimbursements and research accounts reconciliation.
Prepares various financial entries. Processes financial transactions such as internal transfers, expense reports, check deposits etc. Reconciles accounts and verifies for discrepancies and errors in transaction processing. Processes adjustments and follows-up on problems, as necessary.
Reviews accuracy of clinical trial agreements financial terms and budgets to ensure compliance with departmental and university policies. Will report discrepancies to supervisor, as necessary.
Maintains a filing system for all financial clinical trial documents including hard copies and electronic copies of contracts, vendor agreements checks, expenses, payroll timesheets etc.
Verifies the completeness and accuracy of the documentation and ensures it is filed appropriately.
Approves expenditures, receives funds and processes deposits. Compiles and prepares material to be sent to bank.
Monitors financial activity for each clinical trial. Ensures payments are received as per contract terms. Responsible for following-up with sponsors on overdue payments and advises supervisor, as necessary. Handles financial audit requests for internal or external auditors. Assists in preparation of financial reports and assists in tabulation of patient statistics and other study activity.
Responsible for financial record keeping compliance and archiving in compliance with McGill policies and procedures, ALS Center of Excellence standard operating procedures and clinical research contract terms.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of accounting principles. Experience working with clinical trial contracts is a definite asset. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Attention to detail. Proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to clearly transmit and receive information. Demonstrated ability to work in a PC environment using databases, spreadsheets, Banner FIS, Minerva, MOPRA, MMP, document imaging, internet E-mail and word processing software. English, spoken and written. French, spoken.
