Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering within the Schulich School of Engineering invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Research Assistant will report to the Principle Investigator and will work on a project related to filtering techniques for vorticity-impulse force estimation methods. The position will run from June 2025, through August 2025.
The Research Assistant will also provide support to a wide range of research activities within the lab. They will conduct statistical analysis, monitor trends, compile data, and prepare charts, graphs, summaries, and reports.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Conduct a literature review on filtering techniques for vorticity-impulse force estimation methods.
- Develop software for relevant filtering techniques, and implement the vorticity-impulse force estimation method.
- Replicate previous work quantifying the error induced by synthetic noise in fluid flow datasets, and characterize improvements offered by gaussian filtering.
- Investigate application of novel filtering techniques to improve the accuracy of the vorticity-impulse force estimation method.
- Preparation of a journal manuscript based on work completed.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- MSc in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of related experience.
- Advanced skills in statistical software programs.
- Demonstrated skills in MATLAB, Microsoft Office, and LaTex.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of research ethics and regulations.
- Ability to problem solve in complex situations.
