SEC-511 - Creating & Managing Engaging Learning Environments for Secondary Educators
"Teacher candidates will explore techniques involved in the successful engagement and management of a learning environment. Emphasis is placed on establishing a realistic plan to actively and equitably engage learners, as well as management strategies to maximize instructional time, classroom procedures, and the physical and virtual environment."
SEC-518 - Assessment and Evaluation for Secondary Educators
"Teacher candidates will investigate multiple methods of assessment that support student engagement, monitor student progress, and guide instructional decision-making. Focus is on differentiating assessments to meet diverse student needs and promoting continuous cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development."
SEC-526 - Instructional Methods and Strategies for Secondary Educators
"Teacher candidates explore and apply research-based teaching and learning methodologies to make appropriate and data-driven decisions about all aspects of teaching, including integrating cross-disciplinary skills and technology. Emphasis is on planning instruction and assessment that encourages problem-solving, active participation, and collaboration."
SEC-546 - Secondary Literacy Instruction: Assessment, Remediation, Intervention
"Teacher candidates explore research-based strategies for delivering differentiated reading instruction to promote reading proficiency. Language and literacy development are examined to inform assessment, remediation, and intervention practices to support secondary readers, including students with dyslexia and other reading disabilities."
SEC-583 - Curriculum and Instruction for Secondary Educators
"Teacher candidates investigate principles and practices involved in curriculum design for secondary classrooms. Emphasis is on understanding alignment between standards, learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet the needs of a diverse student population."
As an online adjunct faculty member, your responsibilities will include:
Facilitating weekly main discussion forums to engage students in the online classroom.
Adhering to weekly grading requirements, deadlines, and timeframes.
Responding to students’ questions and emails within established timeframes.
Providing a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
Equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing student performance, and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession.
Instructor Qualifications:
Preferred:
Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Leadership, Secondary Education, Learning and Teaching, Teaching Innovation, Literacy, Reading, or a related field.
Valid state teacher certification.
Minimum:
Master's in Education, Secondary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy, Reading, or a related field.
Valid state teacher certification in secondary education.
Exceptional expertise, including a minimum of two items from the following criteria:
1. Enrollment in a terminal/doctoral degree program with a minimum of 18 credits successfully completed.
2. Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a board member on two or more boards related to content areas.
3. Recognition with two or more awards for expertise in content area.
4. Over 3 publications in peer-reviewed journals within the last 7 years.
5. Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a leadership position within their respective professional association.
6. Minimum of 10 years of work experience in the field for which they would be assigned a course.
7. Certifications in their respective content area above and beyond degree credentials.
8. Held a position as a director or higher in the work setting for a minimum of 8 years in the area related to the course.
