Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity: Intrusion-Related Gold & Critical Metals in Yukon
The Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) to contribute to a multi-disciplinary research program focused on Reduced Intrusion-Related Gold Systems (RIRGS) in the Yukon Territory. This project investigates the structural, magmatic, and mineralogical controls on gold mineralization at a significant new RIRGS deposit.
Project Overview
The research aims to improve understanding of the ore-forming processes in RIRGS, and support further exploration, and evaluate opportunities for critical mineral by-product recovery. The PDRF will lead field-based and laboratory investigations, working closely with a team of researchers at UBC and Snowline Gold.
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Structural geology and hydrothermal systems
• Economic Geology
• Paragenesis and alteration mineralogy
The successful candidate will contribute to one or more of the following project themes:
1. Paragenesis and Vein Evolution – Establishing a detailed framework linking vein formation to magmatic and hydrothermal activity.
2. Structural Controls on Gold Mineralization – Mapping and analyzing vein networks to understand ore distribution.
The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with a MSc student who will be undertaking a structural study of the Valley deposit.
Qualifications
• PhD in geology, earth sciences, or a related field (awarded or expected by the start date)
• Research experience in economic geology and structural geology
• Strong analytical and field skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Position Details
• Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 CAD per year, depending on experience
• Location: Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, UBC Vancouver
• Start Date: Summer 2025
• Length of position: One year, extendable up to three years contingent upon funding and performance
