General Education Faculty - Department Chair Description
South College is conducting a search for the position of Department Chairperson for the General Education Department. The person hired will be responsible for the daily operation, organization, administration, general effectiveness, and supervision of all Instructors/Professors teaching courses offered from our Atlanta campus.
This full-time position will oversee adjunct faculty recruiting, hiring, and onboarding, in addition to effectively scheduling online sections with strong consideration to budgetary constraints and maximizing resource potential. The candidate must have strong leadership skills, be open to collaboration, and have a passion for overseeing a quality educational program focused on fostering student support.
Responsibilities:
- Assess and oversee the department’s online schedule to plan and predict staffing needs.
- Interview and recruit general education faculty with appropriate credentials who will contribute to the program and student outcomes.
- Providing ongoing faculty management, training, and support.
- Evaluate faculty performance per departmental guidelines.
- Maintain a teaching load of three courses per quarter.
- Strategically plan course offerings to maximize internal resources and schedules.
- Maintains and upholds the policies and procedures of the program and college.
- Participates in professional development, service, and scholarship.
- Represents the Knoxville campus in cross-campus general education leadership initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education
- Evidence of an earned master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: English, Math, Communications, Computer Literacy, Psychology, Sociology, or Humanities.
- A doctoral degree is preferred.
Experience
- Teaching experience in post-secondary educational setting.
- Leadership experience, preferably overseeing diverse groups of individuals.
- Background in data analysis and/or systems/operation management.
