Athletics & Recreation - MAC Campus
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Manager-Mac Recreation, the Loggersport Coach will be responsible for coaching and delivering structured training to students and instruction to various Loggersports teams. This role includes overseeing all aspects of team organization, administration, and the implementation of the Loggersports program philosophy to ensure skill development and engagement.
Primary Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Assistant Manager to develop a comprehensive plan for the Loggersport program. This includes setting goals, creating schedules, and ensuring all activities are well-organized and executed smoothly.
Acts as team leader, overseeing 28 Loggersports students. Responsible for training student athletes in technical skills for the various Loggersport disciplines (pole climb, sawing events, chopping events, chainsaw, etc.)
Implement and enforce safety guidelines to protect the health and well-being of all participants. Ensure that all team members understand and follow the Athlete Code of Conduct, promoting fair play and respect.
Organize, oversee and lead tryouts. Responsible for selecting the teams. Select the best candidates for the men's and women's teams based on their performance and teamwork abilities (Men 1 & 2, Women 1 & 2). This also includes evaluating skills of the 28 participants.
Coaches and supervises 2-3 practices a week and attend all competitions and showcases (on and off-campus)
In collaboration with the Assistant Manager, Mac Recreation, procure wood for team practices and the Mac Loggersports competition.
Analyze the program's budget to allocate funds appropriately. Monitor expenses to ensure the budget is adhered to and make adjustments as needed.
Plan and organize fundraising events for the program through multiple Loggersport demonstrations with surrounding schools and boroughs.
Participate in meetings with the Canadian Intercollegiate Lumberjacking Association (CILA) and other relevant organizations. Represent the program and stay informed about industry developments and opportunities.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Undergraduate degree
CPR/First Aid
3 years minimum of Loggersports experience working with university or professional athletes.
Experience in student athlete recruitment, leadership and communication skills and ability to lead a team of 20+ student- athletes.
Demonstrated experience with building and nurturing relationships with a team
Demonstrated ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Experience using MS Office Suite, and Workday.
Bilingual (English and French) preferred—McGill University operates primarily in English, but day-to-day duties may require communication in both languages (verbal and written)

Ability to work unconventional hours, including split shifts and weekends
Note: the expected number of working hours: ~10/week
