Join us as a Budget Analyst/Staff Accountant!
Indian River State College is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join our team supporting capital projects and fund accounting activities. This role plays a critical part in developing and analyzing financial reports, monitoring expenditures for construction projects, and ensuring fiscal compliance with college and state guidelines. The ideal candidate will bring three to five years of accounting experience, strong organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with precision and accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:
- An Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business or Finance or a related field:
- Three to five years proven work experience in the accounting field;
- Strong analytical skills, detail oriented and well organized;
- Extensive knowledge of accounting practices and Microsoft Office based PC applications;
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written;
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills;
- Possess logical, critical thinking and mathematical skills;
- Ability to comprehend, analyze, and summarize financial information;
- Attention to detail;
- Ability to multi-task various assignments;
- Ability to analyze, develop and produce spreadsheets and budget reports;
- Knowledge of fund accounting;
- Knowledge of construction management is preferred;
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or Finance is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and producing financial reports;
- Analyzing financial reports and ensure overall operations are within project budgets;
- Monitoring all Fund 7 expenses;
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses to determine value;
- Communicating with construction professionals;
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Gathering accounting and fiscal information for use in budget preparation;
- Completing required reports for state agencies;
- Maintaining compliance with policy, procedures and regulations;
- Recommending procedures and assisting in developing forms to follow procedures;
- Reviewing construction pay requests/invoices for completeness and conformity;
- Analyzing budgetary and fiscal data and making recommendations for budget purposes;
- Monitoring construction expenses;
- Developing and implementing other record keeping systems;
- Prepare account analysis utilizing spreadsheets and other computerized systems for analysis purposes;
- Processing and approving requisitions and payments for capital projects;
- Prepare and monitor monthly and quarterly reports, and research variances for accuracy;
- Assist in preparing budget amendments for DBOT approval
- Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
