The Office of Signature Learning Experiences is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Global Learning Advisor.
The Office of Signature Learning Experiences (OSLE) supports and promotes experiential learning across key areas such as global learning, entrepreneurship, work-integrated learning, and undergraduate research. It serves as a hub for students and academic units seeking to engage in or expand these opportunities.
Global Learning coordinates and administers the majority of UCalgary's credit and non-credit international experiential opportunities (including exchanges, Group Study Programs, research, internships, and Global Learning at home initiatives) to support student growth and align with the University's Global Engagement Plan and Experiential Learning Plan .
Reporting to the Manager, Education Abroad, the Global Learning Advisor works closely with students, faculty, administrative units, and international partners to ensure efficient program delivery, providing advising, administration, and assistance related to all phases of the global learning process.
This role demands the ability to seek out and convey complex information clearly, respond to evolving student needs, and maintain high standards of service. There is a high volume of detail-oriented, administrative work with frequent interruptions. It is important that the Advisor be able to balance individual-based work with a high level of people-focused interactions, while demonstrating excellent organization and time management skills to ensure deadlines are met.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Advising prospective participants on program options, application processes, program policies, and pre/post-program preparation.
- Coordinating a designated portfolio of Global Learning programs, including planning, logistics, marketing, recruitment, and participant support.
- Working within University systems to process applications, acceptances, and registrations, including collecting supporting documents, tracking payments, and verifying compliance with requirements.
- Providing comprehensive wraparound support for students and instructional staff.
- Supporting student volunteers and peer mentors through programming and engagement.
- Contributing to projects that enhance programs and services in alignment with Ahead of Tomorrow, the Global Engagement Plan and the Experiential Learning Plan.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree and 2-5 years of experience in post-secondary education, preferably in Global Learning or international programming.
- Proven project/program coordination and administration skills and experience navigating competing priorities, managing workflows, and working to deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and facilitation abilities with experience delivering training, group facilitation and presentations of various sizes and audience types.
- Ability to synthesize knowledge and experience from complex programs, initiatives and processes into digestible responses to queries from students and manage a high volume of daily correspondence.
- Experience with marketing and promotional activities, including website management and social media content creation.
- Highly developed organizational skills, strong attention to detail, sense of initiative and problem-solving skills required.
- Ability to anticipate needs, plan, organize, coordinate and perform work independently.
- Effective in both team-based and independent work environments.
- Capacity to manage multiple complex tasks in a fast-paced environment with sound judgment and initiative.
- Knowledge of university business systems - Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel), PeopleSoft, Qualtrics, Zoom, D2L, and other web-based applications.
- Familiarity with university strategic plans, academic/non-academic regulations, programs, procedures and services, and FOIPP legislation.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), PowerPoint, Yuja, Qualtrics, Zoom, and online learning platforms (e.g., D2L).
- Knowledge of diverse cultures and cross-cultural communication; experience with travel safety and intercultural adaptation. Prior study abroad or international work experience is strongly preferred.
- Second language proficiency is an asset.
