Description
McGill’s Accessibility Strategy, finalized in Spring 2025, lays out a roadmap for advancing accessibility and disability inclusion across the university. The Equity Team is seeking a graduate student to support the next phase of this work through research and analysis that will help McGill benchmark progress and identify promising practices across peer institutions.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Accessibility Advisor, the research assistant will support a comparative analysis of accessibility strategies and implementation frameworks in Canadian universities, with particular attention to members of the U15. The research assistant will gather and synthesize information from public sources, conduct interviews with relevant stakeholders, and contribute to the development of accessible knowledge-sharing tools to help disseminate findings.
This position offers hands-on research experience and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful institutional change in the area of accessibility and inclusion.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comparative analysis of Canadian university accessibility plans and governance structures.
- Review public documents and institutional websites to gather data.
- Schedule and conduct short informational interviews with accessibility leads at other universities.
- Analyze findings and assist in writing a brief report or summary documents.
- Support the development of accessible formats for sharing findings (e.g. plain-language summaries, presentations, infographics).
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Strong research and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience working independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with accessibility, disability inclusion, or EDI-related issues in postsecondary contexts.
- Lived experience of disability is considered a strong asset.
- Experience using qualitative research tools (e.g. NVivo) is an asset.
- Ability to communicate in French is an asset.
Term and Compensation

- Compensation: $30/hour for up to 20 hours per week
