Court Theatre is the professional theatre of the University of Chicago, dedicated to innovation, inquiry, intellectual engagement, and community service. Serving as the Center for Classic Theatre, Court is a leading theater in Chicago and nationally, unique in that it engages deeply with lovers of theatre and classic texts, UChicago faculty and students, and South Side residents. A LORT-D company now in its 65th year of operation, Court produces 5-6 main stage shows per year on an intimate, 250-seat thrust stage.

Job Summary
The Court Education Program Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting both the Court Education Director and Program Manager in delivering high quality programming by assisting the Department’s leadership with the management of day-to-day program administration tasks. Successful candidates will be mission-driven with a passion for the arts and supporting the delivery of arts education to Chicago’s youth. The position will report to the Director of Education.
Please be aware that programs take place at locations throughout Chicago’s South Side in Chicago high schools, at Court Theatre on UChicago’s campus, as well as virtually. As a result, timelines referenced, as well as the location of work, whether virtual or in-person, may be subject to change.
Responsibilities
- Supports department leadership in ensuring that Court Education Initiative (CEI) mission, values, guidelines, policies, and procedures are implemented and maintained by all teaching artists and contracted staff.
- Supports the execution of administrative processes, including the scheduling of meetings and Artists-in-the-Schools residencies, maintenance of department calendar, supply procurement and inventory, data- and record-keeping for programs and projects, and maintenance of the Shared Google Drive.
- Provides support and, as interest and capacity allows, project management for department initiatives and programs. Provides timely progress reports to the Director of Education and Education Programs Manager. Maintains accurate record of supply related expenses and provides receipts.
- Supports the High School Matinee series by fulfilling bus service requests for partner school attendees and providing day-of coordination. As interest and capacity allows, co-facilitates post-show discussions with other education staff.
- Collaborates with the Marketing Department and Education Programs Manager to produce copy for education-related social media, newsletters, and Learning Guides. Designs Learning Guide slides for theatre lobby for each production in accordance with Marketing’s standards.
- Liaise with education staff, other departments, partner teachers, and the public, as needed. Maintains the general department email address, responding to inquiries.
- Provides support and coordination for summer programming, including Residency Retreat, Teacher Professional Development, Spotlight, etc. Organizes and, as able, procures catering for such events.
- Reviews processes and procedures for education programs and initiatives to make recommendations to the Education Program Manager and Director of Education for needed/appropriate changes to advance program efficiency. Conducts research on industry standards to make recommendations for program improvements.
- Provides administrative support for a leader. Stays informed of activities relating to programs and initiatives, apprising the leader of issues when deemed necessary. Coordinates information flow from leader's office.
- Triages emails and telephone calls for action. Resolves mostly routine and some complex inquiries.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:
- Undergraduate degree at a four-year accredited university.
- BA or BFA in arts education, arts administration, or a related field.
Experience:
- At least two years of experience in some form of arts related administration, preferably within education or youth programs.
- Previous experience working directly with schools and educators.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Expense tracking.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Familiarity with collaborative/design tools, such as Notion and Canva.
- Project and timeline planning and tracking.

- Strong communication skills, including developing external communication documents for a wide range of audiences and effectively addressing stakeholder concerns and inquiries through phone or email correspondence.
