Description
The Department of Emergency Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The Research Assistant's primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator and support the research team through providing semi-skilled or skilled research procedures.
This position is located at the South Health Campus Emergency Department.
This position will be a University of Calgary Research position with permission to access Alberta Health Services (AHS) records through affiliate status. Appropriate AHS training will be required, and existing Research Coordinator Connect Care training is considered a strong candidate asset.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Understand and implement basic research procedures with respect to informed consent, data collection and reporting
- Work collaboratively with emergency department physicians, nurses and pharmacy team
- Work collaboratively with Research Coordinators at Foothills Medical Centre
- Be available by telephone and email while on shift/at work
- Be comfortable in an emergency department environment
- Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
- Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
- Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
- Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- Ethics-related certifications TCPS 2 and GCP required. AHS Privacy Certificate
- Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
- Demonstrated strong communication, team and patient related skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as RedCAP database
- A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
