Qualifications: Please read carefully and ensure you meet qualifications before submitting your application.
- Minimum: Masters in Education or Masters in Early Childhood Education AND valid state teacher certification in Early Childhood Education OR a valid state teacher certification in Elementary Education with an Endorsement in Early Childhood Education Teaching certificate in early childhood education OR two items from the following criteria:
- 1. Leadership position and/or membership in an educational advisory board or a department of education sponsored committee such as a school improvement solutions team within the past five years.
- 2. Has minimum of one publication of article(s) in a professional education magazine or journal within the last five years.
- 3. Has minimum of 2 presentation(s) such as in-service for teachers and/or administrators on best practices within the last five years.
- 4. Served as a subject matter expert; wrote new curriculum or revised materials in an early childhood education content areas within the last five years.
- 5. A minimum of 3 years teaching students ages birth to age 8/grade 3.
- 6. Evidence of a minimum of 2 years of part-time or full-time teaching experience in higher education (undergraduate or graduate level) in the area of Early Child Education.

EDU-315: Family and Community in a Supportive Learning Environment
"In this course, candidates will identify the value family relationships and the community environment contribute to the classroom environment. Emphasis is placed on building relationships with families, caregivers, and other stakeholders in order to influence children, build productive learning environments, and create a positive culture for schools. Focus is placed on creating an inviting atmosphere for families and caregivers, and an inclusion of community organizations and businesses to support this family connection. Candidates research ways to utilize community resources to empower families and include them in communication, learning, and collaborative opportunities that foster a healthy home and school connection."
EDU-354: Child Development: Prenatal to Adolescence
"In this course, candidates identify the developmental milestones of children, prenatal to adolescence. Students examine the progression of these milestones in all areas of development, including psychological, social, emotional, linguistic, cognitive, and physical. Additional focus is placed on typical and atypical child development, and analyzing the effects of environment, trauma, and family dynamics on the development progression."
REA-305: Children's Literature
"Teacher candidates survey types and purposes of literature based on the developmental literacy needs of elementary-aged children. Particular emphasis is dedicated to the various genres that exist within the literature spectrum and how to utilize the different genres, including digital text, to meet specific instructional needs and literacy goals of elementary-aged children."
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing student performance, and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession. Other main responsibilities include the following:
- Facilitate weekly main discussion forums to engage students in the online classroom.
- Adhere to weekly grading requirements, deadlines, and timeframes.
- Respond to students’ questions and emails within the established timeframes.
- Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
