About the IAR and College Analytics Team
The Institutional Analytics and Research (IAR) team partners across the university to turn data into better outcomes for students. Within IAR, the College Analytics team supports academic leaders with high-impact insights, predictive models, and strategic planning tools. Our focus areas include:
- Closed Loop Analytics: Helping teams plan, execute, and evaluate initiatives using data-informed tools.
- Driver Analytics: Identifying the key levers that influence student success.
- Targets & Trajectories: Defining measurable goals and long-term outcomes for academic planning.
The Role: Senior Data Analyst
As a Senior Data Analyst on the College Analytics team, you’ll be part detective, part storyteller, and part strategist. You’ll work closely with partners across IAR, academic leadership, Data Engineering, Product, Finance, and EdTech to turn complex datasets into actionable insights. Whether you’re answering high-stakes questions, building compelling data visualizations, or shaping analytics strategy, your work will help WGU stay student-focused and data-driven.
What You’ll Do
- Tell meaningful stories with data—through visualizations, dashboards, and presentations.
- Translate user needs into clear technical requirements and analysis plans.
- Provide strategic insights that help drive academic and student success decisions.
- Partner with Data Engineering to build and refine pipelines, datasets, and data platforms.
- Solve complex data challenges to improve accuracy, completeness, and usability.
- Mentor teammates and foster a collaborative, growth-minded analytics culture.
- Stay curious—always learning, iterating, and applying the latest thinking in data analytics.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, or related roles.
- Strong SQL skills and proficiency in Python or R.
- Experience working with large, structured, and unstructured datasets
- Proficiency with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
- A love for solving problems, simplifying complexity, and making data useful.
- A growth mindset and a desire to contribute to meaningful work.
Work Location:
- This is a full-time, in-office position at WGU’s headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. You’ll work side-by-side with a multidisciplinary team of analysts, researchers, and educators committed to data-informed innovation.
