Compensation Range:
Annual Salary: $79,930.00 - $107,900.00
Position Summary
This is a hybrid role located in San Diego, CA; the candidate must reside within the greater San Diego area.
The Director, Military Installations and Strategic Outreach provides strategic leadership, leads program efforts for assigned geographical region and/or military affiliated population segment including military community and installation engagement, and collaborates with Installation Student Operations teams. Reporting to the SVP, Military & Veteran Affairs, represents National University (NU) in developing relationships with military education service officers, military, veteran, and retired military and dependents. Partners with faculty, staff, administrators and students across the organization to ensure success for NU and students. Plays a key part of the leadership team for the Military & VA Programs.
Oversees program operations to include military installation, partnership development, and monitoring. Leads partnership strategy and MOU development for military installation strategy. Responsible for Military outreach and community partnerships to include responsibility for internal collaboration with Student Operations, Marketing, Enrollment, and Data teams regarding recruitment, growth, quality of student services, student accounts, budget control and implementation, marketing and community outreach and serves as a liaison to faculty.
Essential Functions On Site and Location Specific:
- Oversee and collaborates on program operations including military installations (San Diego, Other sites California and Arizona), Spectrum Veteran and Military Community Center and partnership development and engagement. Leads partnership strategy and MOU development for military installation strategy.
- Collaborate on program operations including budget development and monitoring; compliance with federal regulations related to military students; admissions and enrollment for military students; and planning and execution of military related events and local and national partnerships.
- In collaboration with SVP, Military and Veterans Affairs and AVP, Campus Operations, plan and execute quarterly reviews for each installation ESO and team, reporting on data, progress and programming based on individual installation needs.
- Provide strategic direction in outreach and outside recruitment activities to include interface with local community colleges, other colleges, local governmental agencies, school districts and businesses as well as civic organizations to promote University awareness, student transfers, and admissions.
- Organize and attend events such as transfer days and answer questions for prospective students. Give planned presentations. Maintain corporate and community outreach, with an objective of increasing enrollment. Coordinate, monitor, and supervise off-site programs.
Essential Functions Hybrid:
- Collaborate on articulation efforts for Military Occupational Specialty work experience and training. Coordinate with Registrar’s Office and Faculty to review military experience for academic credit not yet evaluated by the American Council on Education.
- Provide overall direction to include student, faculty, and administrative services. Provide training and communication on new policies, procedures, or practices. Create an environment and the development of specific processes and activities that promotes quality of student service among all staff. Serves as liaison with Human Resources. Initiates and approves personnel actions of assigned personnel.
- Implement and control budgetary expenses. Budget supervisor for administrative departments; supplies, equipment, materials, with tracking mechanism for cost effectiveness. Interface between the University and local vendors and service providers. Negotiate for cost effective services. Process invoices for payments.
- Special projects and assignments as designated. Continuous quality improvement.
- Grow and expand the Military & VA Business Development Team in accordance to strategic plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervisory duties to include: Hire, train, and develop 3 - 21 staff members.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Preferred area: management, business, communication, human behavior, psychology, or marketing.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of relevant industry experience with demonstrated ability to build partnerships within regional market organizations required; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Extensive higher-education institutional knowledge, including advanced understanding of the NUS, its mission, values and structure. Working knowledge of academic culture, specifically regarding issues of greatest public interest, such as online educational programs.
- Ability to be independent, flexible, creative, critical and strategic thinker with solid judgement, sensitivity and logical reasoning including self-motivated and results oriented.
- Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to project professional competence, leadership capability and successfully communicate with a wide range of individual of constituencies in a diverse community making a positive impression in public forums. Ability to interact appropriately with industry leaders, faculty and staff.
- Exceptional community relations skills with the ability to represent the University and help build public understanding of University’s brand and values.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, good follow-up and follow-through. Excellent analytical skills in addition to collecting, organizing and presenting information in a relevant manner.
- Advanced use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
- Foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures across the organization and all levels while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities
Location: Hybrid, San Diego County, Expected Office Hours Weekly (Scripps Ranch) and Local Travel. This is a hybrid role located in San Diego, CA; the candidate must reside within the greater San Diego area.

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies.
