Position Summary:
The Simulation Lab Research Assistant will provide essential support for both research-related and operational functions of the SIM Lab within the School of Social Work at McGill University. This role assists faculty in implementing and managing simulation-based research projects, while also coordinating the practical day-to-day activities of the SIM Lab. The incumbent will work closely with community clinicians, students, and faculty to support simulation design, data collection, analysis, and Simulation Lab logistics. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance research assistance with hands-on operational responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist faculty in the preparation and implementation of research studies evaluating simulation-based learning and outcomes.
- Support data collection activities such as administering surveys, coordinating interviews or focus groups, and managing observational data.
- Help organize and manage simulation sessions, including scheduling, participant coordination, and setup of equipment and spaces.
- Maintain documentation and records related to both research data and Simulation Lab operations.
- Assist and collaborate with researchers on data organization and reporting.
- Facilitate communication among faculty, students, and external partners involved with the Simulation Lab.
- Support compliance with research ethics guidelines, assisting in documentation and reporting as needed.
- Work independently to complete assigned tasks while collaborating with the broader research/Simulation Lab team.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- An MSW and at least 5 years of work experience in social work in more than one area (i.e., case management, group work, crisis intervention, therapeutic or counselling work)
- Experience with research processes and educational program delivery.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- Familiarity with research data collection methods and tools (e.g., surveys, interviews).
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, and preferably experience with basic data management or analysis software.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage research support and lab coordination tasks effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Fluency in English and French, both spoken and written.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder environment.
