The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The Research Associate's primary responsibility will be to lead research activities for various research and innovation projects in the PEP-C Lab. It is anticipated that the Research Associate will support 2-3 projects at any given time. This position works closely with the Principal Investigator in areas of protocol development, standard operating protocol development, development of research projects and proposals, data collection and analysis and writing research grants proposals and manuscripts This position requires discretionary decision making, professionalism and comfort interacting with our collaborators including healthcare stakeholders and healthcare providers and has the potential to impact the integrity and success of the PEP-C Lab. Peak periods of the year are stressful due to high volume of work and competing demands.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Under limited supervision, responsible for performing a range of research tasks in support of research project objectives
- Support coordination and conduction of research activities of key research studies in consultation with the principal investigator
- Assist with applications (e.g., ethics, grants) and development of research protocols
- Conduct literature review, surveys, data collection and analysis and interpretation and for use in scholarly publications
- Produce manuscripts for publication in appropriate scientific journals and support knowledge translation activities
- Recommend changes to methods, procedures, and practices within the lab
- Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
- Manage own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
- Demonstrate strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Minimum of a Masters level degree
- Minimum 7 years of research experience (preferably mixed methods)
- Expertise in writing tri-council grants and manuscripts, overseeing ethics requirements, and reporting study progress to funding bodies and ethics boards as required
- Knowledge of implementation science and patient-oriented research methods
- Ability to provide support to others through consultation on research methods and design issues
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient data
- Ability to work successfully within tight set time frames
- Ability to communicate well with colleagues from various disciplines and external collaborators within a complex initiative
- Ability to solve complex problems
- A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of the team
- Excellent writing, communication, organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills required
- Good judgment and concern for detail and accuracy
- Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, N Vivo). Experience with statistical software packages is an asset
- Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
