Job DescriptionThe Research Compliance Assistant is part of the VPR’s Office of Research Security, Integrity, and Compliance staff, will report to the Associate Director of Export Control and Sanctions Compliance, and will provide assistance with: screening international shipments; reviewing international travel by faculty and staff; screening foreign nationals on campus; identifying activities and equipment that requires Technology Control Plans; and maintaining compliance records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
The Research Compliance Assistant will support the activities of faculty, staff, and graduate students, and help ensure the University’s compliance with federal laws governing export controls as they relate to international collaborations, international travel, international shipping, procurement of scientific equipment, and foreign nationals on campus. The Research Compliance Assistant will also support the University’s compliance with federal research security statutes, regulations, and policies, and the activities of the Boston College Foreign Influence Working Group.
The Research Compliance Assistant will need to work with a variety of stakeholders, including faculty and research staff, and will need to ensure that the University’s activities are compliant with federal requirements while simultaneously ensuring that academic and business activities are properly supported. Many of the Research Compliance Assistant’s responsibilities (e.g. screening foreign travel and reviewing international shipments) will involve a high volume of work with a very short suspense.
Hiring Range: $24.92/hr to $31.15/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.

1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand and apply complex federal regulations and identify compliance issues impacting University activities.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and a wide variety of stakeholders.
3. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with tact and discretion.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferred.
