The Opportunity:
The Landscape Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Landscaper III. This position is responsible for supervising, training, and coordinating assigned staff to ensure high-quality landscape maintenance is performed efficiently and on schedule. As a secondary point of contact for customers, the Landscaper III represents the department, ensuring clear communication and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities may be adjusted in response to evolving business needs.
Responsibilities:
Supervise Landscaper I and II employees, ensuring daily tasks meet departmental standards and schedules. Coordinate labor, materials, and resources to optimize productivity and quality.
Perform landscape maintenance, including edging, trimming, mowing, pruning, blowing, trash removal, and weed control to uphold quality standards.
Establish procedures to ensure efficient operations, secure assets, accurate financials, and compliance with policies. Conduct zone audits, track inspections, and address issues promptly.
Train employees on tasks, standards, and customer service. Communicate with customers to ensure maintenance and safety meet expectations, performing quality checks as needed.
Schedule and provide safety training, monitor work practices, report accidents, and process workers’ compensation claims as required. Manage work requests in line with SOPs and guidelines.
Review and manage all work orders, ensuring accurate data and effective scheduling. Coordinate with team members, vendors, customers, and inspectors to support smooth operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of 9th grade and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
4+ years of landscape experience in a commercial or corporate environment.
Demonstrated experience supervising, leading, or coordinating teams in landscape maintenance or a related field.
Proficiency with a variety of landscaping tools and equipment, including riding mowers, edging and trimming tools, and irrigation systems.
Knowledge of horticulture practices, plant care, pest control, and soil management.
Demonstrated experience in customer-facing roles or responding to client needs, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Effective communication skills in English in order to: Work effectively with customers; Operate and demonstrate the functions of the electronic equipment; Utilize telecommunication devices. Bilingual ability is a plus to facilitate communication within various teams and effectively serve a broader range of clients.
Knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment: Cleaning, preserving finishes, checking fluid levels, and lubricating.
Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and experience with digital record-keeping. Familiarity with using email and calendar tools for scheduling, tracking work orders, and documenting landscape maintenance activities.
Ability to work in extreme environments and communicate and coordinate with individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
