Job DescriptionThe Chemical Purchasing & Compliance Specialist will work with the rest of the Operations Staff for the Merkert Chemistry Building to support purchasing, receiving, storage, and oversight of chemicals for the research and teaching labs, and core facilities, in the Merkert Chemistry Building. In particular, this will involve receiving requisitions for chemical orders from research and teaching lab and core facility staff based in the Merkert Chemistry Building, screening requests for completeness and compliance concerns, and passing on approved requests to the MCAS Service Center for orders to be entered. Upon receipt of orders this role will work together with other members of the Operations Staff for the Merkert Chemistry Building to ensure proper labelling and documenting chemical deliveries, as well as proper distribution and storage, including regular inventory auditing. This role will work together with the rest of the Operations Staff for the Merkert Chemistry Building on a daily basis, as well as with other colleagues from the Office of the Provost/VPR, Chemistry department research, teaching, and administrative staff, the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences (MCAS) Service Center, EH&S, ITS, and Procurement.
Hiring Range: $27.47/hr to $34.34/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements·Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry is strongly preferred
·At least one year of experience with chemical purchasing, inventory management, compliance, and auditing is required
·Night/Weekend presence on-site, in particular in response to emergencies, will be occasionally required
·Must be able to lift ~50 pounds
