Department: Systems and Networking
General Statement of Job
The Systems Analyst III is responsible for the College’s enterprise server infrastructure support and maintenance. The Systems Analyst III organizes, schedules, and directs the activities of the systems team assigned to specific technology projects and which handles a variety of complex server and systems tasks.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Manages, supervises, and provides technical leadership to system technician, systems specialists, systems analysts I, and systems analyst II.
- Manages projects, prioritizes and delegates implementation and production tasks to system team members; monitors and reviews their work.
- Ensures enterprise servers and data center services through multiple campuses including installation, maintenance, repairs, and monitoring of servers and storage.
- Oversees and maintains up to date servers and system services including installations, repairs, and routine maintenance work of related equipment such as physical/virtual servers and storage.
- Recommends enterprise server related solutions.
- Manages 24x7-data center infrastructure in collaboration with the Information Technology department.
- Responsible for providing a continuation of service delivery and continuous point of contact for service users and staff alike outside of normal office working hours.
- Ensures business continuity and disaster recovery process and procedure of network management servers and server equipment configurations.
- Serves as primary liaison with data center service providers and server consultants for contract negotiations; ensures that a high level of service is provided by vendors and consultants as specified in the statement of work (SOW) and that maintenance and licensing is up to date.
- Ensures that all data center implementations as well as the server infrastructure and topography are properly documented according to departmental procedures, best practices, and comply with infrastructure and security guidelines.
- Keeps abreast of trends and developments in networking systems, communications and security.
- Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Maintenance, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field required.
- At least five (5) years of work experience in systems required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, internet research skills, macro reporting and IT project management.
- Proficiency with Windows and Linux server operating systems, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), storage, and associated application system software.
- Proficiency with Active Directory, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name Systems (DNS), Internet security, F5 Big IP, Server patches and Storage Area Network (SAN), Virtualization, Database, and other related systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
- Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Security Sensitive position: All applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
- In addition, subject to a federal background check.
- Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, preferred.
- CompTIA A+, CompTIA N+, MCSA, CCNA certifications, preferred.
Physical Requirements

- Sitting and standing particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
- Mobility to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
